Summer Programs
Directed Voice Camp August 1-5th 2009: 5 day intensive program
Students spent a week preparing music & scenes from selected musical theater shows. Students were taught stage direction and movement, singing harmony and ensemble work as well as audition preparation and stage dress/makeup. The week culminated with a performance for friends & family. The singers advanced into auditions & one took home a lead at their HS!
Directed Singing with Confidence Camp July 30 – August 3, 2007: 5 day intensive program
Students learned through improvisation exercises, acting games, and vocal instruction, as well as stagecraft & movement seminars every day. Students also participated in a mock audition where they presented a resume to a judge & performed their solo song as if in an actual professional audition. The finale of the week was the showcase. Each student performed fully staged and choreographed with costumes & sets. All of the participants have progressed immensely from camp to now. The goal of the camp was to create more ease and confidence in each student when they are performing.

Vocal Masterclasses/Workshops are provided intermittently throughout the year to provide new perspectives & insight.

Student Achievements
Emily Faber – Senior at Seton LaSalle High School. Just recently, held leading role as Nellie in Seton LaSalle’s production of South Pacific. She also is a frequent soloist in Seton’s Liturgy Choir. Won the role of Mary in Mt. Lebanon HS’s radio production of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” For the past two years, Emily was also selected to sing in Mt. Lebo’s Cabaret show. She is a music scholarship recipient at Wooster College.
Valerie Hosler - After only a semester & a half of study, Valerie’s voice has progressed beautifully. She has been accepted to Mercyhurst with the maximum vocal scholarship they award & Duquesne University. She won the role of Urchin in North Allegheny’s Les Mis.
Caitlin Childs – Senior at Wesley Academy. Caitlin was accepted for voice performance at Mercyhurst, West Liberty College & Westminster and she has accepted a music scholarship to study at West Liberty University.
Leah Conover – Junior at Chartiers Valley High School. After 1 year of study, Leah has progressed beautifully & this was evident as she was named the Best Musical Act Winner at the 2011 Exhalations Talent Show at Chartiers Valley High School.
Shannon Dailey – Junior accepted into CAPA High School for Theater. Shannon will study in New York City at Columbia University this summer in their prestigious pre-collegiate theater program! Shannon has performed the title role in “The Little Mermaid” as well as the Granny in “Little Red Riding Good” for South Park Summer Theater. In 2009, Shannon made her South Park Mainstage debuts in “The Piano Lesson” & “Midsummer Night’s Dream.” She also performed in the premier production of “Bastards & Fools” at Thoroughline Theater.
Adam Matonic – Freshman at Cleveland Institute of Music on a Voice Scholarship. Accepted to Boston Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music and Duquesne University Mary Pappert School of Music for Voice Performance. Also accepted with scholarship to Oberlin’s Summer Vocal Program. Adam auditioned & was selected for Tenor I in PMEA District Chorus Fall 2008 AND just advanced at Districts to PMEA Region Choir! He also won the role of “Patrick Denning” in USC’s musical “42nd Street.” Adam portrayed Marius in Upper Saint Clair’s concert version of Les Miserables. Adam won a leading role in USC’s fall play, “The Front Page.” He was 1 of 2 sophomores accepted into USC’s elite choir Chanticlairs. He has also been a soloist. Summer 2008 Adam attended the Dana Vocal Performance Clinic at Youngstown State University. He won the role of John the Baptist in “Godspell” in June of 2008.
Kara Laus - Freshman Theater Major at Arcadia University. Kara competed and was awarded the Constance Rockwell Scholarship from Pittsburgh’s Civic Light Opera in the amount of $4,000 a year! Won leading role of Amayzing Mayzie in Chartier’s Valley High School’s production of Seussical the Musical 2010! Kara has been accepted into Arcadia University where she will study Theater Arts. She was also inducted into the Thespian Hall of Fame January 2010.
Mary Jo Maloney – Freshman at Edinboro University. Won the role of Cowgirl Bobbie in KO’s production of Footloose 2010! After a few months of vocal study – Mary Jo was 1 of 15 acts selected from over double that amount that auditioned for Keystone Oak’s High School’s talent show, “Varieties” in Fall 2008 & also was selected to perform and Emcee in 2009.
Jordan Roberts – Graduate of Oberlin Conservatory on a full vocal scholarship. She portrayed Hermia in Britten’s Opera “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” November 2008 at Oberlin. She has also studied in Italy through Oberlin’s summer program on a scholarship. Before college, Jordan was accepted with scholarship to Northwestern’s High School Preparatory Institute in 2005.
Callie Hanau – Junior at Penn State University. Involved in NRT (No Refund Theater) at Penn State where she won the lead role of Kate in Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” last fall and this fall was the newest girl to be cast in the school of theater’s production of “The Odyssey.” Callie auditioned & was accepted in Penn State’s Elite Choir. She was 1 of 13 selected for the Chamber Choir. She portrayed Golde in Bethel Park High School’s “Fiddler on the Roof” Spring 2008. Fall 2007, she played Mrs. White in Bethel’s “Clue.” In the summer of 2007, Callie had a supporting role in South Park Theater’s Mainstage production, “Hay Fever.” Callie was accepted to District Chorus and was a soloist in Bethel’s elite choir, Top 21.
Chelsea Tritschler –Sophomore at Youngstown State University. She portrayed the Pharaoh (ala Tina Turner) in Ringgold’s “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat” February 2008. Summer 2008 she was received a scholarship to study at the Dana Vocal Performance Clinic at Youngstown State University. Chelsea was accepted to Florida State’s Pre-College Music Program and received a scholarship. She has won numerous talent shows and has performed solos in Ringgold’s Chorus as well as been selected for County Chorus. Chelsea was selected to represent her school at “Make your dreams come true” Scholarship Audition, Fall 2008 & has been accepted to Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music where she studies vocal performance. Chelsea won the leading role of Maria in Ringgold HS’s production of “The Sound of Music.”
Toni West – Adult student who after a month of study won role on a TV commercial & accepted into a talent agency.
Christin Salem – Adult student who after 3 years of study, was able to pursue her dream of performing full time. She gigs all around the Pittsburgh area & is praised for her angelic clear voice & sound. Christin is working on releasing her first independent album!
Erin Collopy – Junior at Pitt portraying the Chesire Cat in Pitt’s new production of ALICE. After coaching, won the role of Golde in Bethel Park’s “Fiddler on the Roof.” She also was accepted to District Chorus Fall 2008. I also prepared her for her college voice auditions where she was accepted at Duquesne & IUP & Pitt.
Brandon Williams – 8th grader, after a few short months of voice lessons, Brandon was accepted into Rodger’s Middle School (Pittsburgh’s Performance Middle School)
Kathleen Burke – Junior at Davidson College. Kathleen was a featured soloist for Bethel Park’s musical Fiddler on the Roof in Spring 2008.
Dalton Zottola – Senior at Mt. Lebanon High School. He was one of the youngest performers selected for Mt. Lebo HS’s Winter Talent Show. He has also won composition awards the past 2 years in Reflections & last year’s piece represented Pittsburgh. He has studied for 4 years. He is also the lead singer in Sound Color Productions School of Rock Band.
Danielle Ferrer – 8th grader at Chartiers Valley Middle School. She has studied for 4 years. Danielle is regularly named her class “Musical Genius” & is asked to perform her piano repertoire for her entire school district. She was a featured soloist on her school’s Christmas Concert.
William Ament – Junior at Bethel Park High School. He came to lessons to learn the foundation of reading music and rhythms as well as basic violin pedagogy. He now performs with TRYPO (Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra), District & Honors Orchestras, Pittsburgh Youth Pops and is concertmaster of the Bethel Park High School’s Orchestra and looking into majoring in Violin Performance at Yale or Harvard.
